2/19/11 South 46- - Eagle River 37
The South "C" Team played a strong first half to jump out to a 27-17 lead
and then withstood a barrage of 3 point shots in the second half to hang on for a 46-37 win over
Eagle River. South applied full court pressure to jump out to a 16 -6 lead in the first quarter and
continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter to build a 27-17 point lead at halftime.
South struggled on offense for the first six minutes of the third quarter allowing Eagle River to
pull within 30-27 but recovered and built ther lead to 34-27 at the end of the third quarter. Eagle
River relied on 3 pointers to keep them in the game while South was able to work the ball inside as
they extended their lead in the fourth quarter. Alec Valdez scored 14 points,and Roman Stephan and
Mo Jobareth each added 8 points to lead a balanced scoring attack as nine of the their twelve
players scored in the game. South improved to 7-5 in conference play and 11-9 overall. South has
two road games left, Wednesday at Dimond and Friday at Chugiak, at 6:00.
2-16-10 - South 58- Bartlett 54 Big Mo Jobareth
celebrated his birthday, a day early, by scoring 19 points and the South C team played
four solid quarters to beat a much improved Bartlett team 58-54. Both teams came out shooting well in a
fast paced game that lead to a 16-16 tie in the first quarter.
The fast pace and good shooting continued for both teams with South taking a 39-34 lead
into the locker room. In the second half, South continued to drive to the basket while
Bartlett continued to try and shoot three pointers and the Southsiders had more success
with their game style to open up a nine point lead after three quarters. Both
teams played evenly in the fourth quarter with Bartlett making up some ground but not
enough as they fell short in the end. Oliver Johnson and Roman Stephan added 10 points,
Alec Valdez and Isaac light scored 6 points and Court Parret added 5 points. South
improved to 6-5 in conference play and 10-9 overall. South plays a home game
on Saturday against Eagle River at noon.
2/14/11 - South 50 - Service 53 The South C team was hoping to get a
split with Service, the first place team in the conference, but came up short 53-50. South
played great team defense and once again used a balanced scoring attack to keep the game close,
but Alec Valdez' s 3 point shot, that would have tied the game, came a half of second late.
South trailed 51-43 with five minutes left in the game but used full court pressure to close
the gap to 51-50 with one minute to go. Service was able to hold the ball for the last minute
as the South players were unable to get the foul before Service scored for the 3 point lead
with 7 seconds left in the game. South chose not to take a timeout and pushed the ball up the
court but couldn't get the shot off before the buzzer. Isaac Light scored 13 points, Mo
Jobareth scored 12 and Oliver Johnson and Roman Stephan each added 9 points. South
dropped to 5-5 in conference and 9-9 overall. South plays at Bartlett on Wednesday night
at 6:00 and and at home against Eagle River on Saturday at noon
2/12/11 - South win vs. Palmer
2-10-11 - South 47 West 41
2/8/11 South 53 - Chugiak 32 The South C Team started the "Dave Matheson Five" and
they took advantage of the opportunity playing a strong defensive first quarter to lead South
to a 52-32 win over Chugiak. Dave (Frogger) Matheson, Travis (T-Rex) Heyroth, Zach (Hop-Along)
McAllen, Krish (Swish) Metha and Court (Smiley) Parret all got their first starts of the
season. Playing a strong 2-3 defense, while tickling the twine with a couple of three
point shots, one by Mehta and another by McAllen, along with a strong put back
basket by Parret, South finished the first quarter trailing 10-8. In the second quarter,
South applied full court pressure defense to open up a 30-16 lead at halftime and they
never looked back after that. Roman Stephan scored 9 points, Krish Mehta added 8 points, and Mo
Jobareth, Alec Valdez, and Travis Heyroth all added 7 points to lead a balanced scoring
attack.South improved it's conference record to 4-4 and their overall record to 7-8. South
plays West at South Thursday night at 6:00 before traveling to Palmer on Saturday to play
Palmer at noon.

2/3/11 South 59 - Chugiak 34
South used a strong full court press and strong rebounding to beat
Chugiak 59-34 in the opening game of the Service C tournament. Mo Jobareth had 16 rebounds
and Court Parret had 13 rebounds as South controlled the boards through out the game.
South's pressure defense forced several Chugiak turnovers and they were able to turn them
into easy scoring chances jumping out to a 36-18 lead at halftime. In the second half South
looked to put the game away with a strong third quarter and did just that by extending
their lead to 54-20 at the end of the third quarter. Alec Valdez led all scorers with 14
points, Oliver Johnson added 12 points and Roman Stephan scored 9 points as 10 of 11
players scored in the game. Tyler Robinson returned after a long layoff due to injury to
get his first point s of the year. South will play Service Friday night at 7:30 at Service
2-2-11 - South 56 - Dimond 15
The South C team used a full court press and 10 of 11 players scored in a total
team effort as South ran away from Dimond 56-15. South used their press to jump out to a 39-8
lead at halftime and then played an effect zone in the second half to hold the lead. South lost
one starter to injury and and got a scare with another before emptying their bench and letting
the bench play out the second half. Court Parret led all scorers with 9 points, Oliver Johnson
had 8 points. Zach McAllen,Alec Valdez, and Mo Jobareth scored 7 points in a balanced scoring
attack. South also had 42 rebounds with each player getting at least two rebounds in the game.
South improved to 3-4 in the conference and 5-6 overall. South plays Chugiak Thursday night in
the first game of the Service C tournament at 7:30.
1-26-11 South 37 - Service 52 The South C team started strong but once
again struggled offensively in the second and third quarter as Service pulled away for a 52- 37
win. South used a strong inside game and Mo Jobareth and Court Parret started out strong
scoring 12 of South's first 18 points. South scored a combined 11 points in the second and
third quarter to fall behind 43-23 and never challenged again. Mo Jobareth scored 12 points,
Isaac Light scored 5 points, and Alec Valdez,Court Parret, and Roman Stephan added 4 points
each.
1-22-11 South 53 - East 60 The South C team continues to
improve but didn't make enough shots when it counted as they lost to East 60-53. South was looking
to rebound from 62-38 loss to East just 10 days earlier but despite playing better on both ends of
the floor, East once again out shot the Southsiders and that turned out to be the difference. South
was able to pull within four points with two minutes to go but could get no closer as they
struggled offensively down the stretch. Isaac Light had 15 points, Oliver Johnson and Roman Stephan
had 11 points, and Mo Jobareth added 8 points.
1/18/11 - South @ Eagle River The South C team played a strong full court
defense that lead to several points on turnovers as they beat Eagle River 53-32. South jumped
out to a 29-11 lead at the half and never looked back as eight of their eleven players scored
in the game. Alec Valdez and Mo Jobareth scored 13 points and Isaac Light chipped in 12 to
lead a balanced scoring attack.David Matheson, Travis Heyroth,Oliver Johnson,Zach
McAllen, and Roman Stephan all were in the scoring column and Court Parret, Andrew West, and Krish
Metha all played strong minutes off the bench. South evened it's conference record at 2-2
and ran their overall record to 4-4 overall. South will play their next game at home on
Saturday at 2:30 against East.
1/15/11 South @ ACS The South C team played it's
best game of the year but it wasn't enough as they lost to ACS 69-62. ACS dropped players down from
their Varsity team and JV team but the young South team held their own and keeping the game close
until the very end. South jumped out out to a 17-11 lead after the first quarter with Roman Stephan
and Court Parret running the floor on the fast break. ACS used a big second quarter, hitting four 3
pointers to score 22 points and South went cold on offense leading ACS to a 33-27
lead at halftime. South played ACS even in the third quarter with Roman Stephans, Isaac Light, and
Mo Jobareth doing most of the scoring as both teams exchanged baskets with South pulling
within 5 points, 52-47, at the end of the third quarter. South trailed by as many as 9 points in
the fourth quarter but picked up their defense pressure to pull within 1 point before ACS put their
Varsity and JV players back in the game to secure the win. South had a chance to tie the game with
40 seconds left,trailing 65-62, but the ACS defense forced a turnover that led to a easy basket and
South was forced to foul the rest of the way.South battled the whole game and kept the score close
despite being outshot 38-19 at the free throw line. Oliver Johnson,Court Parret, and Isaac Light
had 14 points and Roman Stephan added 13 to lead the Wloverines in scoring. David Matheson and
Krish Mehta gave South quaility minutes off the bench while Alec Valdez, Court Parret, Mo Jobareth,
and Issac Light all had strong rebounding games. South's next game is at 6:00 at Eagle River on
Tuesday night.
1-12-11 - Bartlett @ South The South C team found it's
shooting touch and used a full court pressure defense to beat Bartlett 57-48. South led 34-17 at
the half and pushed their lead to as much as 24 points turning Bartlett turnovers into easy scoring
opportunities'. Isaac Light had 19 points, Alec Valdez had 9 points and Oliver Johnson added 8
points and six other players scored in a total team effort on offense. Mo Jobareth and Court Parret
played strong down low and had a solid rebounding game. South picked up their first conference win
to go to 1-2 in the conference and 3-3 overall. South's next game is Saturday at noon at ACS.
1-10-11 - East @ South The South C team
had trouble finding their offense and East pushed the pace in the second half as East beat South in
their home opener 62-38. South pounded the ball down low and drove to the basket to get to the free
throw line 33 times but couldn't convert from the line or the field on a cold shooting night. South
trailed 22-16 after the first half playing a strong zone defense but their poor shooting
forced them to a man to man defense and East was too quick on this night. Isaac Light had
10 points, Oliver Johnson had 9 points and Mo Jobareth had another strong rebounding night.
1/5/11- South @ West The South C team play a strong defensive
game but couldn't find enough offense to pull out the win as West hit a 3 pointer with 7
seconds left for a 38-35 win. West scored 17 point in the first quarter to jump out to a
17-8 lead but South picked up the defense in the second quarter holding West to 3
points which allowed South to take a 21-20 lead at the half.
The game went back and forth in the third quarter as both teams
found some offense with West holding a 32-31 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
South played solid defense in the fourth quarter, holding West to 6 points, but managed
only 4 points on offense. South dropped to 0-1 in conference play and 2-2 overall
with both loses coming to West. Isaac Light scored 8 points, Oliver Johnson, Alec Valdez, and
Mo Jobreth added 6 points and Roman Stephens scored 5 points in a balanced scoring
attack. Mo Jobareth had another solid rebounding game with 9 rebounds. South will play it's
first home game next Monday at 6:00.
12/18/10 Alec Valdez scored 28 points, Mo Jobareth had 12 rebounds, and
David Matheson had 10 points and 6 steals as South
applied pressure defense the whole game to defeat Eagle River 62-24 to finish the
Chugiak tournamnet 2-1. South used a full court man to man press to jump out to a 24-5
lead and stayed with a aggressive half court man defense to hold Eagle River to 24
total points. Isaac Light had 8 rebounds and 6 steals and Oliver Johnson also
had 6 steals. Ten of eleven players scored on offense and every player had at
least two rebounds to contribute to the win. South will practice over the break to prepare
for their first conference game against West on January
5th.
12/17/10 West applied full court pressure and South was unable to break it as
West dictated the tempo of the game from start to finish as West cruised to a 61-38 win over South.
South trailed 14-11 after the first quarter but struggled moving the ball on offense in the
second quarter, scoring only 3 points which led to a 30-14 deficit at the half. A South team that
looked calm and relaxed on Thursday night, looked nervous and out of synch with several
unforced turnovers. Oliver Johnson scored 10 points, Alec Valdez scored 7, and Zach
McAllen,Mo Jobareth, and Isaac Light all chipped in with 5 points.
12/16/10 The South C team scored 26 points in the first half and 26 points in the second
half to beat a very good Colony team 52-45. Oliver Johnson and Roman Stephan scored 12 points and
Alec Valdez scored 11 points which helped turn a solid defensive team effort into a win.
In a game that was tied several times, South managed to hang on to a three point lead most of the
fourth quarter with good ball movement and solid defense. Roman Stephan hit seven free throws down
the stretch to help seal the victory.Mo Jobarteh, Court Parret,Isaac Light,Tyler Robinson, and
Zach McAllen defended the key and Travis Heyroth, David Matheson, and Krish Metha all played big minutes on
the perimeter off the bench. South will play West tomorrow at 3:00 and Eagle River
on Saturday at 11:30.
